What You Need to Know About Teeth Bleaching Systems

There are countless teeth bleaching systems that can be found in stores these days, including toothpaste, whitening strips, paint on gels, tray systems, rinses and dental floss. There are also teeth whitening agents that your dentist can give you to help you get a whiter smile. Any of these teeth bleaching products can be effective for those whose teeth are natural and healthy, and are free from gum disease. Here’s a guide to the various teeth bleaching systems available to help you choose the best products for you.

Any type of toothpaste cleans your teeth and removes stains to some extent as they contain slightly abrasive ingredients for this purpose. Whitening toothpastes, on the other hand, are formulated with mild chemical or polishing ingredients that facilitate the process of removing stains. These toothpastes don’t actually contain bleaching agents, however.

There are other teeth bleaching systems that include hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide in their ingredients, both of which help to lighten the color of your teeth. These whitening systems are often found in the form of gels and strips that can be used in the comfort of your own home. Teeth bleaching gel contains peroxide and can be painted onto the surface of your teeth by using a small brush. These products are typically used a couple of times each day for about two weeks. You will start to see results within several days, and you should have whiter teeth for up to four months. These products range in price from ten dollars to twenty dollars.

Another choice in teeth whitening products is the thin, nearly invisible whitening strips that are coated with gel that contains peroxide. The strips must be applied to your teeth two times a day for 30 minutes, for a period of two weeks. The strips can cost anywhere from ten dollars to fifty dollars for the course of treatment, and the results should last for up to four months.

Whitening rinses help eliminate plaque, freshen your breath and prevent gum disease, but their main purpose is to make your teeth lighter. These products contain hydrogen peroxide, and if you use them for 12 weeks or so you will notice that your teeth are whiter. These products are relatively cheap in comparison with the others; a one month supply will run you about ten dollars. But these rinses are not as effective at lightening your teeth as other whitening products, and they take much longer to show results.

There are other teeth bleaching systems which utilize a tray that fits over your teeth. You simply fill the tray with the whitening gel and place it in your mouth. Typically, you need to keep it in for several hours each night for a month or longer, depending on how discolored your teeth are and how white you want them. Freak’n White is one such product that uses Viocin, a patented formulation, along with carbamide peroxide to provide better whitening effects in less time, typically only nine treatments. Carbamide peroxide provides the bleaching action, and Viocin adds to the effect by removing the yellow shade that bleaching can leave behind. It also contains cavity fighting xylitol, and is safe for sensitive teeth.

Any of these teeth bleaching systems have the potential for uncomfortable side effects. This can include mild irritation and increased sensitivity in your teeth. Sensitivity is normally only a problem in the early days of using the product, however.
